Established by Royal decree in 1994 following the discovery in the early 1990s of significant volumes of gas in the Sultanate, Oman Liquefied Natural Gas LLC is one of the largest investment projects in Oman, harnessing cutting edge technologies to provide the world with a cleaner source of energy.

With a 30% share in the company, Shell was chosen by the Government to be Technical and Commercial Adviser for the project, due to the complexities of producing and delivering the gas to end-users as far as Korea and Japan. This saw Shell not only involved in the design and construction of the plant in Sur, but also in the development of gas wells, a gas processing plant and 352 kms of pipeline.

Oman LNG became recognised as one of the fastest LNG projects to ever come to fruition, taking just nine years from gas discovery to the export of its first cargo.
The company is also proud to fund a number of programmes aimed at equipping young Omanis with essential business skills and helping them find better career opportunities. Other contributions to society include building a network of paved roads to connect various villages near Sur and the construction of over 360 residential units for the less privileged.
