Shell Development Oman showcases capabilities and social investment activities at Oil and Gas West Asia exhibition
Shell Development Oman, will showcase their energy transition capabilities and social investment projects at the Oil and Gas West Asia (OGWA) exhibition and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Conference. The exhibition will be held at Oman’s Convention and Exhibition Center from March 26th to 28th and Shell will be among 300 companies from 19 different countries to present a range of initiatives to key industry players. Shell’s ‘Solar into Schools’ project and ‘Shell Eco-marathon’ will be on full display at a dedicated exhibit. Guests will be treated to an interactive round of virtual golf and a fun energy transition quiz.
Shell Development Oman won the 2018 OPAL Award for Best Practice in the Small Business Development category for “Solar into Schools” project. The prize-winning project centered on fostering Omani Solar Small-medium Enterprises (SMEs), to build a platform for renewable energy that can contribute to Oman’s energy future. Hosted by the Oman Society for Petroleum Services (OPAL), the highly anticipated annual event recognizes innovation, excellence and best practice standards focusing around areas of critical importance to the industry.
As part of the ‘Make the Future Festival’ held in Singapore, the Sultanate will again be participating in Shell Eco-marathon Asia. With a contingent of two futuristic cars competing, one from Sultan Qaboos University and the second from German University of Technology in Oman, the teams will challenge their peers on the track with their own energy-efficient designs. The marathon will bring over 120 student teams from 18 countries across Asia Pacific and the Middle East to put their self-built energy-efficient cars to the test.
Muscat, Oman - Shell Development Oman (SDO) recently awarded a further two contracts to Hussam Technology Company LLC (HTC), an Omani small and medium enterprise (SME), for the design and construction of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation systems to be installed into two public schools located in the Al Batinah North Governorate. Contracts for the latest solar school sites were signed by Dr Firas Al Abdwani for HTC and by Chris Breeze, Shell’s Country Chairman for SDO. The recipient schools in which the new solar PV generators will shortly be installed are Kaab Bin Barsha School in Saham and Al Asma’a bint Al Harith School in Sohar.

Road Safety remains a core theme of Shell’s Social Investment Programme in Oman. We have introduced a number of initiatives focusing on all individuals in society including children, parents, teachers, students, and bus drivers.
